Drive to Kanchanaburi, city located 130 km away from Bangkok and along a river crossing, including the River Kwai.

 

Visit Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, an interactive museum where short films and clear descriptions provide the context of the Japanese aggression in Southeast Asia, detail their plans for the railway and describe the horrors faced by those prisoners who worked and died constructing it.

 

Then walk to the Allied War cemetery and memorial site nearby which contain the graves of an estimated 9,000 Allied soldiers who lost their lives while building the bridge and constructing the notorious “Death Railway”.

 

Visit the Bridge over the River Kwai, constructed during the World War II by the Japanese using the forced labor of hundreds of thousands of civilians from southeast Asia and prisoners of war from the Allies’ forces.

 

Take a historic ride on Death Railway Train passing over an original wooden viaduct before having a buffet lunch in a local restaurant.
