CEI 02 Golden Triangle + Lunch (Hilltribes/Mae Sai/Boat trip/Chiang Saen)

CEI02               Full Day Golden Triangle + Lunch 

TIMING:                  08.30 – 17.00

Go to Mae Chan to visit the Yao and the Akha hill tribe villages. Explore around these tribal villages where villagers still dress up in their traditional costume.

Continue on to Mae Sai, (town located at the border with Myanmar) to visit its bustling market. Mae Sai is also the northernmost point of Thailand.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Continue driving to the Golden Triangle area where the Mae Khong River joins the Ruak River and form the “triangle” with the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. Take a long-tailed boat trip around the Golden Triangle to see the splendor of the mighty Mekong River. Visit also the Opium Museum.

Then continue to the old city of Chiang Saen to witness some magnificent ancient ruins and temples. Chiang Saen was the capital of the kingdom until 13th century, when King Meng Rai, founder of Lanna Kingdom, moved the capital to Chiang Rai. At that time, the Burmese occupied the area and after a war, Chiang Saen was totally destroyed and became an abandoned city for many decades.
