CNX 01
CNX01 Half Day Chiang Mai City & Temples + Market + Boat Trip
TIMING: 08.00 – 13.00
All temples visited in this tour were constructed during the Lanna period. In the West of the city lies Wat Suan Dok, built by King Kuena. Its large white pagoda and small stupas contain the ashes of the Lanna Kings and the royalty. Then, Wat Phra Singh, first built during the reign of Phra Chao Kham Fu (1328-1335). The temple’s compound includes the Lai Kam Chapel.
Located in the heart of the city (almost right in the middle of the square-walled city), is Wat Chedi Luang, a huge pagoda built by King Saen Muang Ma in 1401. It originally was 90 meters high but as a result of an earthquake in 1545 it is only 40 meters high now. A small building near the main entrance encloses the “Sao Intakin” (the city’s pillar).
Drive around the old city to explore the moat surrounding and the ruins of the city wall gates. Then visit the largest local market, Worarot Market, alive with its daily hustle and bustle. Exotic fresh fruits, preserved food, local delicacies, clothes galore, flowers and many other things are sold here at reasonable prices.
Afterwards, continue to Wat Chai Mongkol & travel north out of the city. Take a boat and enjoy the views and the rural identity of Ping River until reaching the destination point: the “Thai Farmer’s House”. Agriculture remains Thailand’s largest source of income and here, the visitor can discover the main elements: rice, local herbs, fruits and fish, all thriving in a chemical free environment. Return to the town.
