Visit Wat Luang Khun Win, a beautiful temple tucked away in the jungle located in Mae Wang District, Chiang Mai Province,Northern Thailand. It is more than 700 years old.Wat Luang Khun Win is definitely worth to visit. The place itself is gorgeous especially with the mysterious atmosphere under the mist.

Much of this temple’s history has been lost to the past as there were times when it prospered as well as abandoned. Today it is believed that the Buddha himself came to the location of the temple on a pilgrimage where he encountered two members of the Lawa people – Khun Sab and Khun Sra Muang. Being of pure heart, when they asked the Buddha for a strand of his hair he obliged and a pagoda was built to house the relic atop a small hill, the pagoda then was named Phra That Mon Pia. The Buddha was also asked to leave a footprint for future worshipers and again obliged. However, the rock brought to him was too small so only parts of his foot was imprinted, the heel and toes being too large to fit. The town was subsequently named Muang Wid, with the word wid meaning to be chipped or split, which eventually morphed into Muang Win. Following years of being abandoned, Kruba Oonroen Supottho of Wat Ban Kuan in Sanpatong District renovated the temple in 1954, inviting Kruba Apichai Kaopee to preside over its opening in 1958.
